voice and breath technique for the Musical singer & for dancers
The goal of this course is to help students discover the creative artist within them. In this course students are taught different vocal techniques and interpretation styles that follow the varying genres of musical theatre productions. Attention is given to the placement of the larynx, of the vowels and of the area and type of breath support activity. These tools combine to create either a voice with a straight, or a character repertoire sound (as opposed to a jazz or pop sound). Specific physical training aims to enhance ease in singing and dancing simultaneously. Body centering and grounding exercises are practiced for ease in singing, stage displacement, dance, emotional interpretation. Lessons include support in preparing for auditions through judicious song choices, dress code, authentic poise and a brush-up of audition étiquette. This course is for singers of all levels.*
This course provides students with basic to advanced classical vocal technique for opera and song interpretation. Lessons include the study of basic vocal anatomy and exercises in body centering and limbering, with a focus on breath support. Our aim is to connect the voice to the body and to interpret with emotion, without prejudice to the vocal apparatus. Lessons typically start with a body and a voice integrated warm-up, as well as exercises in vocal placement. We shall review the pronunciation languages as needed in singing the classical repertoire (especially German, French and Italian); the interpretation of styles depending on the period and origin of the repertoire. Guidance in preparing for auditions, especially as befits the German opera FACH system in voice categorization. Also included are tactics on how to cure and/or prevent vocal-fatigue, as well as how to pace the voice within stage-rehearsal frenzies. This course is for singers of all levels.*
These workshops are excellent for choirs preparing for a concert or a competition. They also provide a wonderful means to revitalize a singing group, during the mid-season! We shall use the repertoire already known to the choir & choir conductor. Our aim is to augment the quality of vocal "presence" and energy in the choir. Warm-up includes new and lively exercises in breathing and vocal technique. Designed to provide simple but powerful tools for the conductor, these exercises aim to support his /her artistic quest. Materials and exercises are determined on a case-by-case basis, following the needs of the choir. In all cases, we seek to develop unity and color through vocal projection, clarity of tone, breath control and, most of all, a physical connection to the voice and its emotional content. Combining such tools will certainly enhance the choir's musical interpretation and stage presentation, to create a dynamic and inspiring concert.

"My classes with Marie Louise were a turning point in my career, and this, at all levels. Thanks to Marie-Louise, I have acquired a solid technique and excellent comprehension of the voice and have learnt to feel my voice: feeling the muscles, the bones, in short, feel the voice from the inside. In addition, Marie Louise is a person of incredible goodness, kindness and wisdom. It has changed my life as a singer, it will change yours!"
~ Maude Paradis, Opera Singer
"I had the luck, or rather the honor, to study for 1,5 years with Marie Louise Bourbeau. Though one should not praise one's teacher to the skies, it is impossible for me to find any bad criticism about her teaching. Not only has she an incredible insight into the technical approach to singing, she is also able to convey it in such a way that it becomes incredibly easy for the students to implement her directives. She can teach everything there is to know, such as the basics of vocal placement, the truth behind hard-to-explain concepts like "support", not to forget those useful small tricks, which she provides, in cases of (performance) emergency. On top of all this, she is also one of the warmest, most loving and nicest people I have ever had the good fortune to know. If there ever was a singing teacher that I would recommend, it would certainly be Marie Louise Bourbeau!" ~ Kevin Angus, Baritone at the Landestheater Linz
